Chilodinella
Identifying Chilodinella:
Chilodinella is one of the quickest fish killers. It has a heart shape or when dead it is rounded, filled with small “bubbles” under the microscope.
Diagnosing the symptoms in koi:
- Chilodinella attacks the skin and gills.
- The fish hangs under the surface and gasps for air (piping) if the gills are heavily infestated.
- The prominent area of infestation is between the head and the dorsal fin of the koi.
- The first visual signs of infection are marked by waxy round spots.
- Thereafter, the skin thickens and becomes more white before it starts to disintegrate.
- Small fish are affected over the entire body.
- Fish showing resistance have slimy areas on the skin, increasing in size as days endure.
